The Writing Process

First I would like to thank Uvi Poznansky for inviting me to this blog hop that will be focusing on what the writing process means for us as individual writers.

Uvi has many books to her credit and is a California-based author, poet and artist. “I paint with my pen,” she says, “and write with my paintbrush.” She received a Fellowship grant and a Teaching Assistantship from the Architecture department at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where she earned her M.A. in Architecture. Then, taking a sharp turn in her education, she earned her M.S. degree in Computer Science from the University of Michigan. Uvi writes across a variety of genres: Apart From Love (contemporary fiction, Rise to Power (historical fiction, A Favorite Son (biblical fiction), Home (poetry), Twisted (fantasy) Now I Am Paper (children’s book) and Jess and Wiggle (children’s book.) BlogFacebook pageTwitterAmazonGoodreads

Here is what Uvi asked me to share with you all

What am I working on?
  I am enjoying myself working on my latest poetry book called "In Between Everything" based on my new writings that is a part of myself and my alter ego. I find myself lost in this book because I have finally found where I feel the most comfortable at. I am also working on a fictional book called "Sinfully Becoming" based on the life of my alter ego, this book by far has been the most exciting book that I have ever worked on.

How does my work differ from other authors in this genre?
  I am not set in one genre, I enjoy writing about anything that interest me at any given time. I enjoy writing poetry more because it is based on my feelings or thoughts at the time that it is being written. "Sinfully Becoming" is a little different than the normal darker books because she is not born dark and she is human, there are no vamps or werewolves in this book. It is just of a woman who has a bad turn of events that causes her to take the law into her own hands and she eventually starts to lose her soul and sight of what is real and what is not real. In the beginning of my writings I never wrote outside of real life and where I was in life, it was a way of releasing my emotions onto paper. I am now learning to enjoy the other side of my creativity.

Why do I write what I do?
   I have always up until the past two years written as a self therapy, it helped me and still does help me get through life a little easier. My darker side is even a part of me because my Alter Ego was created out of severe depression that I was enduring at the time. I now write for the sheer enjoyment of making a story or to continue my self therapy.

How does my writing process work?
  This will sound rather weird but no one said I was normal. I really do not have a writing process like my other author friends have. I just write what I am feeling at the time and go with that. I do however change my writings a lot after reading them several times over when I realize hmmm that really sounds awful or there is not enough detail into what I really wanted to say to begin with. I started writing only out of depression, I then found complete enjoyment in writing and getting to know other authors and their creativity.

Here is a peek into my last published book;

I have thought about this book a lot and wondered if I should even write it at all. I believe that it will help me heal and understand myself better and connect with other people. There are just some things that you have to decide whether you are going to share or not, your deepest thoughts and memories are sometimes left best not discussed or told in order to protect those who want to stay hidden in the shadows of their own guilt, this way they never have to take responsibility for their actions that left another person shattered and torn. I have researched everything that discusses examples about how a real autobiography should be written, the outlines, what is going to be my key points and punch lines. I have read the ten most important things that belong in a bio and I have decided I will write this book and I will write it the way that the book and my feelings tell me to write it. I have never listened much to other people and a lot of the times maybe I should have, although in a way I have allowed people to bring me down even when it was not their intention. If I had listened to other people I would not have married, meaning I would not have had my three beautiful girls. I would never have went back to school and many other things that have in some sort of way bettered my life and/or made me grow as the person I am through the steps I have taken on my own.

I do not believe in fearing the unknown, although I find myself fearing so many unknowns that I am left to ponder who I really am. I talk a big game of making a new beginning even though it is almost only meant for other people because I am too weak to listen to my own advice.

I sometimes wonder if I am dictating my future with the horrors of my past! Am I doing what I so powerfully tell everyone they should never do? I believe I have all the strength in the world to make my story heard and understood with all of its good and bad. Just with the writing of my past I could move a thousand walls right out of hell. It is finding the words to describe my story that creates the most hardships for me.

 In the end I would rather learn and except the unknown for all that it has to offer or teach me. We all find ourselves walking roads that were best to have kept untraveled; we learn from those mistakes the best way that we can. Sometimes though our hearts tell us to travel those same roads again because we feel so empty without the walk that is only found in the mind of another! I am not a novelist, I am a poetess and this book will be written in the only way I can write “straight from my heart”! I may upset a few people with this book but it is not their life this time that I am thinking about, it is my own and what I have had to live through. My life is still at a crossroads but a new beginning is better than an old ending and only I can find my new beginning, the way that I do it is up to me and no one else.
