A soldiers pride

They have weathered the storm leaving their
homes with nothing more than a bag to pack
on their made to be toughened backs.

A glance one last time at the family they
are to leave behind, a tear left on their
cheek wondering if this would be their last
goodbye. A pride like no other consumes their
souls, to fight for what they believe in and
to never hide.

Standing proud at the services that they will have
to join, fallen friends and other memorable boys
now lay. A little more their hearts will have to bare,
to not see the brother in arms that at one time stood
beside them holding no fear.

Coming home to a world they no longer know, seeing
that all of their blood and tears have for so many
others given endless hope. Their shoulders back as
they walk another step, feeling a pride that most
will never understand.

Never did they hide and never will they forget the
friends that were lost and the blood that was spilled.
