Chest full of notes

She sits in her living room looking out into space remembering
so much that the time had seemed to erase.A lost love plays on
her mind frequently as she tries to remember his face, every last
crease and line.A smile curves her lips as she is taken back in
time, she can almost feel his arms wrapping her into his like an
ivy vine clinging to her for survival. His eyes she can see clearly
now,the color of the beautiful-est sky on a summers day.

She imagines herself in his arms again even though she knows to
live in the past will only bring her unneeded pain that will once
again bring her to her knees in grief. She misses all of their
fairy-tale dreams and the nights that they had loved each other
with all the they could give and had, remembering the love that
had been always so real.

She walks to her closet where a chest still lies, here is where
she will find once again all of her memories.Tucked inside is
an old brown envelope filled with all of his notes, the sides are
now splitting from the years that have gone by,she still sees
on it the tears that she has so often cried. She starts to take
out the notes he sent as a picture of him falls from her hand,
it does not look a day older than when it was sent to her by
him.

She grips it in her hand tightly; looking upon his face that she
had loved so dearly wondering why their lives had taken the turn
that it had so long ago.She looks up at the walls that should
carry photos of the family that they had always wished for,by
now it should be filled with pictures of their grandchildren as
they play in the backyard vigorously searching out their play
toys.

A tear falls from her eyes as she takes the last of the letters
out of the envelope that has been searched through many times
before,to find a letter from war.Dear Emily it brings me much
sadness to write this from afar, your loving fiance has been buried
like so many more before their time.He put himself on the line
as many times before, this time though his soul has found the
ending to this forsaking war.

She looks to the walls once again, there are no pictures to see,not
even one of her make belief dreams. She closes her eyes and thinks
of him as she slowly passes away;  here is where he has always
been waiting.Hand in hand they walk into the light, this is just
the beginning of their perfect life..

A unforgettable life

A splendid boy no more than two or three, running up a hill in hopes to climb that leering tree. So full of life as the years go by, nothing could harm him or darken his eyes. Serous quest he was going to make one day, take his clothes in his hankie he was grown and knew what he needed. To get away from everything and the hill awaited, only to decide maybe today he was not grown up enough and he would have to wait for another day. The light of his life a brother who could always make everything alright, a baby sister soon to be dressed up lovingly. Poems wrote so beautifully, only now to hide for no one to see.

Funny days and crazy nights, blankets set afire to scared to wake the other, only to laugh about it in the morning. Fights that seem so silly now, so many lives to change in the heartbeat of one sad minute. Life to be held in the balance of grief changing the beautiful boy that was once so sweet. Years of sadness and pain, no one to blame but the god who had taking his brother and best friend.A trucker was not his dream, it belonged to another but this kept him close to him. A piece of his heart to be torn, only to leave three fourths.

Years go slowly by, tears to always leave his eyes. Never to feel whole again, just living a sad lonely life. A girl to make it seem alright, the one he would dream of having one day every night. Life to be so full again, this girl was the one who took all of his pain away. Once again to be hurt, just another part of his heart to be cut. A family now to bring him joy, a loving father who had two of his own sweet boys, now his very own little girl, his image to be bestowed. Once again another heartache to feel, once again another part of his heart to never feel.

His soul mate he seen one day, felt the power her nearness gave. Hearts to pace, clearly written on both of their faces. Never to know her name, never to see her again. A soul mate to meet when both lives were completed, souls to drift away from each other waiting for the day they are once again infused with each other.

Another love to take him away, but never really feeling loved the way that he needed. Never really feeling like he was seen, in a full room of people but alone he always seemed. A true love to find again only now to feel more pain. One of a kind they would always say, to feel each other always even though they were so far away. To heaven and back in the wooden chair they sat. Never had that been felt, with each other their bodies had melted. In the end life had once again played a down spiraling fall. Once again his heart is to cry for all that has been lost.

I know him through and through, his heart I can feel when it is blue. His mind I can read as he is right now thinking of all of these things. A man to be placed on earth to feel so much pain, the once happy days seem so far away.Wondering to himself what more could he have done, to have a life that was more than this, his dreams to always be dismissed. He always feels like he has to give himself up to please everyone else. I know him through and through, I still feel him too.

The meeting ( part four to the nameless man )

Malory felt like her body was on fire but she was shaking with chills, it felt like she had a bucket of water thrown on her she was sweating so badly. She tried to open her eyes to see where she was, this did not feel like her little cottage but her attempts to waken were eluded as she fell back into a deep sleep that she could not escape.

Chance passed back and forth not knowing what to do for this beauty that lays in his bed, her fever was now breaking but she would not waken for him to ask what hurt on her, if anything. It had been a week now since he brought her to his homestead and at first it was a bit touchy whether she was even going to live and the though of finally finding the girl he had so many thoughts of for so long just to lose her still made him cringe with fright. Chance had done all he could giving her ice baths and sips of broth to get her nourishment up and now it was just a waiting game to see if and when she would open her lovely eyes again.

Chance had already done his chores for the day and fed the girl some broth and now he just wanted some rest, he has a chair beside her bed that he has been sleeping in and his back felt like it was in misery but he wanted to be here when she wakes so she is not frightened. Chance leans back in his chair and falls asleep dreaming of the girl he was caring for and wondering if she was as beautiful inside as she was on the outside.

Malory opens her eyes slowly, she does not recognize her surroundings or the man whom sleeps beside her in a chair like a child who has had no rest and could finally not keep his eyes open. Something does seem familiar about him though but she cannot pin point what it is just yet. She tries to sit up on the bed to take a look around but her strength is gone from her and she falls back onto her pillow in a heap of frustration. Malory does not want to waken the man but she cannot just lay here not knowing what brought her to this place and just who is this man was bothering her more than anything. Malory gives a little cough hoping it wakens him from his slumber, her plan worked as he started to then open his eyes.

Chance was overjoyed that the girl had finally woken from her restless sleep and got up out of his chair like lightning racing over to her to check her over. That was all it took for Malory to push him away and ask what had been bugging her.

Who are you and how did I get to this place? Malory asked her eyes now wide and curious and in her voice Chance could tell she was also frightened but he was livid that he had nursed her for a week and now she pushes him away like he is some animal.

I my dear am the man who saved you from what could of been the death of you! and a thank you would of been more endearing than a shove from what must be a very ungrateful girl," he said to the now wide eyed girl.

Malory felt ashamed of herself now and with a batter of her eyes that melted his anger away she said in her sweetest voice," thank you sir and I am grateful for all that you must of done for me but I am very confused about how I have gotten here and why I am here in the begin with.

There was a fire and it hit across the fields taking homes and barns with it," chance explained. I found you close to your cottage as I was on my way to town, I brought you back here to my homestead to take care of you because I do not know you or if you have any family and to leave you there would of been a death wish for you my lady.

Malory thought about what he had just explained to her then it dawned on her that he had not told her if her little cottage still stood up or had it also been taken with the fire that spread across the prairie.

And my cottage? she asked him in a soft whisper

gone my dear, I am sorry to tell you that just when you are finally getting back on your feet! Chance replied.

Tears started to trickle there way from Malory's eyes as she thought of all the hard work she had put into her home, the splinters and bruises that covered her body seemed now to of been a waste of time and sweat. Chance once again walks over to Malory this time to take her into his arms and give her any support he could in a time that must be the worst of her life. Malory this time does not push him away but instead lays her head on his shoulder as she cries what must of been a million tears, but all the tears would not bring her home back and now she had no idea where she would stay until she gathered enough money and wood to rebuild her cottage. She thought now maybe was the time she moved on to find a new beginning somewhere that she can make it without worries of her next meal and if that Jones would finally take control of her land as he had so many others the past year.

A million things were running in Chances and Malory's heads now, but none were spoken of just yet as they both laid back in the bed. Malory was still in Chances arms as they drifted into a restless sleep.

The towns people ( Part three to the nameless man )

The town had been going down hill for a long time, men on horses always ransacking it scaring off what could be new community members. It seemed like every time an new feed store or parlor would open up to help make the town grow that blasting Jones would chase them off, never wanting interference that would hurt his businesses. He had raised prices so high now that it had gotten harder and harder to make a decent living here and many people were moving on to more prosperous towns. And if that were not enough to worry about he now was not giving as many coins for eggs and fruit as he once had. He knew he had the town in a corner that they next to none had a chance of escaping.

The heat had been blazing hot and gardens were drying up leaving people to worry of winter months and how they would pay there dues on their homesteads. Woman teared up to see their men come home heads bowed down, letting defeat take all their pride away. Knowing they could not support their families and get the necessities that were needed to make it through the winter had them taking spells of drunken nights in Jones taverns only to give him back the money he would spare for eggs and such, leaving a smile of trumpet on his cruel face. The hotter the sun blazed the more chances he had of owning everything around him. His dream was to buy out as many homesteads that he could to make his much bigger and giving him more room for his cattle to roam and breed. His dream was to have the biggest cattle ranch in the territory, that's where the money was and he planned on taking everything he could to have his dream be realized.

The town believed the old lady that lived in the old cabin behind the thousand year old willow trees to be a witch but she bothered no one and sometimes gave then good advice that would always get them out of binds when nothing else would work. Her name was Gretchen and she had the whitest hair that anyone had ever seen before and to the memory of all even years and years before she had always had that long white hair that you could see reflections of the blinding sun sparkle through giving more reason to believe she indeed was as told for so many years, a witch but a friendly one that loved her community.

Gretchen had visions of her beloved town becoming a prosperous and happy one to live in but only when the couple she dreams of makes it so. The problem of course was they had never meant but in their dreams and she could not make a meeting happen between the two or she would be defining fate and for that to happen would mean all would be lost so she had to wait for the time to come for the two to meet out of their visions. She knew the two people that would make life in her town a much better and peaceful place to live and had watched them grow from wee babies and had wondered how they had never meant. Maybe this was the way it was to be for now but she could not imagine how much more the town could take before the meeting would take place. She had faith in her visions of the two because she was never wrong in her visions but sometimes she lost faith in the two to ever meet and would sit on her porch on her old rickety rocker watching chaos take hold of her people and town. Life could get no worse than it had already gotten and something had to be changed before all would lose in this fight less battle.

Darkness had fallen and smoke could be smelled from miles away and the sky was turning redder with every passing minute sending people into a terrifying and uncontrollable frenzy. The towns people were running in all directions screaming out for their children and looking to the sky wondering were exactly the brush fire was, it was bound to happen with the heat the way it had been and having no rain for the past two months had only made its chances heighten. Gretchen knew where the brush fire was and a smile lite her face up because her visions were about to take place and fate was working it's magic. Now all she could do was sit back and see if Malory and Chance would take the bait and hope no one was hurt in the making of it.

Malory could not breath, her air was being taken from her lungs filling with the smoke that surrounded her cabin. Tears of true defeat were pouring from her lovely eyes, to see what her family had worked so hard for to be destroyed in a matter of minutes was more than she could bare and she wanted to escape as fast as her legs could take her for to see it all go down in flames would kill her spirit and crush her heart to pieces.

Chance could not believe his eyes, from his homestead it looked like the town was burning to the ground so he jumps on his horse and rushes to town as fast as he could willing to help whom ever needed it and hoping he was not to late. When he gets closer to town he realizes it is not in town but near the old cabin that he passes everyday on his way to the mill. He has never seen anyone there but decides he had best go check it out to make sure it is empty and not lived in. Chances horse stops not wanting to go any closer than it has already went, fright has made it stop dead it in tracks so Chance has to go afoot the rest of the way. When not seeing anyone he turns to leave before he is over taken by the flames, smoke engulfing his lungs. Chance has had to take another route than he came because the fire was to high killing all life around it, he stumbles on what felt like a humans body and adrenalin kicks in scoping the lifeless body up running out of harms way. He lays the girls body to the ground and checks her pulse to see if life still ran through her body. When he feels a pulse he starts to shake her to see if he can waken her, he stumbles back when she flutters her beautiful eyes open shock of what he sees takes his breath away. The color of sapphire eyes stare back at him with an innocence that could be no other than the nameless girl of his daydreams. She once again passes out from her ordeal so he takes her in his arms riding back to his homestead forgetting all else accept the girl with sapphire eyes and hair the color of the sun on it's brightest day.

Nameless girl ( part two to the short story nameless man )

Blasted wood, he was so weary of the life he had made for himself. Wishing more than not he had done as his father asked of him and sought out a bigger stead that he could of raised live stock on and mounted unbreakable stallions for the neighboring towns, that was where the money was to be had in these parts. He had wanted his own mill, then when his name was spread across the prairies he would start to build cabins and farmhouses, but his dreams were taking there time on being made and he now wanted no more splinters and sweat from this forsaken place. His boss, and how he hated the fact that he was to call another man his boss! was a losing gambler that would cheat a blind man out of inches to the canes he was to whittling for them just to save a dime to spill on the tables that eve at the gambling halls. He had been cheated more often than not and was ready to make his way in this world far from such a poor and quite town that could no longer hold his attention.

Every time he got it in his head to leave something would stop him in his stead, but what was it he had always wondered? He despised all around him, his father had moved away from here long ago making a life that was more than he had ever thought was out there. Why did he stay? what held him in this place? Daydreams had taken him away to a girl that had the eyes of emeralds and hair that flowed down her back as yellow as the sun on it's brightest day. She was always doing the same thing in his daydreams, coming to town from wherever her homestead had hid her away. She held a basket of what looked to be blackberries, her emerald eyes glistening like a child on Christmas morning as if she had a secret that she would never tell a soul. Maybe it was where she found such plump blackberries, for he had never seen them so dark with sweetness and the size of these.

In his daydream the girl was almost skipping through town a playful smile reaching her lushes lips that were the color of red roses. As she walked through the market a man grabs at her, mauling her like she belonged to him and she screams for help but to no avail. He watches for a minute to see if someone will help this damsel in distress but everyone seems to shy away like they see and hear not a thing, this makes his face burn with fire as he races to her side putting his body in between the man and girl, she is now ready to spit fire and he has more trouble stopping her lashings to the man than he does making the man leave. Once the man leaves he turns to the girl to see her eyes are now the color of sapphire and they are glaring right at him. He cannot believe this little vixen, she is hell bent on making him pay for what that brute had tried to do to her. He almost believed she was going to knock him on his noggin for rescuing her. Once again he wonders to himself why he stays in this forsaken town.

The girls blackberries are spread on the soil and this now gets her attention, she stoops to pick them up tears now falling from her beautiful eyes and his heart melts at her frustration and what she must feel, to be a mere girl and to be manhandled by such a man. Her hands shook as she plucked her berries off the ground, tears falling harder now because her berries were not the plump sparkling jewels she had intended on selling to the market which meant the coins would not be as great as if they were. He grabbed at her arm in a soft way to let her no he meant her no harm and he just wanted to help her finish her chore.

She pulled her arm back in a rush like she had be bruised but he knew that is not what made her do so, just the mere touch of her skin against his had sent his heart racing and his hand felt like it was on fire. Her eyes were now studding his like she was trying to figure him out but to no avail. Once all of her berries are picked from the ground she gives him a look of innocence and tells him in a sweet voice like none he had ever heard before thank you, for all of his help and then hands him her basket of berries as if in payment for what he had done for her. He tries to hand them back to her but she dashes off to quickly for him to do so.

He watches her race off in the direction for which she had came, and when she has completely disappeared he thinks to himself, he wished he had caught her name. He now remembers why he stays in this forsaken town, in hopes one day he will see the girl that had stolen away his heart in nothing more than a daydream.

Nameless man

She wakes with a start, her nights have been filled with a restlessness and she feels deprived from sleep. She has the same daunting dream every night, it never wavers it is always the same dream that leaves her with a wanting like she has never experienced before.

She has went into the forest as she does everyday looking for blackberries to pick, she enjoys the walk into town where she sells them to the market for extra coins that will help her buy flour and cornmeal for the month. She some how has walked off of her normal path when seeing clusters of blackberries beyond the trees headed to the north. These are not the blackberries she has grown use to picking, they are plumper and looked to be juicer than any she had ever seen before. She forgets to mark her trail in the excitement of spotting the blackberries.

She has picked and picked until her fingers are bleeding and hurting so she decides it is time to retreat from the blackberry bushes as much as she dreads so. She notices it is a lot later than she anticipated it to be and feels a little lump go to her throat when she realizes she was lost. She scurries trying to find her path before the night falls and she goes deeper into the forest without being aware of it.

The darkness is falling and there are night shadows falling into the forest now and she is just as lost as she was an hour ago. She is getting more frightened as the time past and starts to feel pure fear running through her veins, quickening her heart and making her knees shake unbearably. She hears something following her and takes off into a run losing the beautiful blackberries she had spent hours picking but right now she had more things to worry of. She finds a tree with low branches and climbs it in a hurry and not to soon does she make it to the top, peering down from the tree she sees a clan of coyotes bouncing and jumping trying to reach her. She just stares at them in fright but feels relief that she knows they cannot reach her here and for now she was safe.

She has been in this tree for hours and the coyotes have never wavered in their tormenting cries to get their meal, which just by happened to be her. They have grown more irritable with their scurrying about trying to reach her and she has grown so weary and tired that she feared sleep would over take her and send her plunging to the ground, right into the path for the creatures to make her their supper. She has got to plan her escape but her tiredness has flooded her mind with nothing more than the thought of sleep. This was hopeless and sleep was now taking over her.

It had seemed like she only slept for mere minutes when she heard the tormenting coyotes start to cry out in fright and pain and a ringing sound was heard in her ears. She gazes down to where the coyotes once were, only now to be replaced with another creature but this one was easy to the eyes to be seen, he sat on a great stallion with the eyes the color of what could only be called beautiful violet. His hair was the color of the sky at it's darkest hour and his skin looked to be sunbathed. He is looking up at her hiding in her tree of safety with the most daring smirk on his lushes lips. He asks her in a toying way if she planned on bedding down in the tree for the remainder of the day or would she prefer to stretch her legs and retreat to her cabin that awaited her. She was not in any mood to play in this mans amusing game but was overjoyed with the prospect of leaving this place that had held her captive through out the night. He held his hand out to her with confidence in his sparkling eyes, knowing she had know choice but to climb down to him and grasp his hand for safety. When she reached the ground in safety he then once again reaches his hand down to her, asking if she would like to join him on his stallion and he would deliver her home where she would finally be safe from the forest wandering creatures.

Once again she takes his hand as he lifts her up behind him with a feeling of lightning pulses rushing through her body. She wraps her arms around his waist to hold on knowing he is riding this speed just to tease her. They are taking the long way home following the river that she lounges by when she is in her fantastical dreamy world. She loves to sit by the water dreaming of her prince charming coming to her rescue and saving her from the lonesomeness that fills her days. She sees her cabin in the distance and feels a relief but also a dread knowing her time with this strange and bewitching man was almost over. He lifts her off of his stallion at the embankment of the river that flows before her home and gives her a glance of longing as her takes her hand to his lips kissing it in a goodbye. He then turns back in the direction they had just came from and gives her one more lingering stare as he makes his way back to wherever he had came from. She watches as he disappears into the day, leaving her with a wanting that she had never thought to be possible and one she would soon not forget.

She regrets everyday not asking the name of the man who rode his stallion into her life and right back out again.

Storybook tales

She clutches her baby to her chest scurrying through the forest that is full of
so many unwanted predators that could put a end to all of her misery in one
striking moment. She is running from the life she has lived for so many years
she has lost count now. She refuses to let her child live with the cruelty she has
endured for so long, it is time to take her life into a different direction before
it is to late for her. She has hidden under a cloak for so long that she could not
even recognize herself anymore and hid from all around her.

She wonders to herself is there truly a prince out there for her like the ones her
mom had read to her from the storybooks when she was wistful child living in
an fantasy world? How had her life gotten so unbearable? Why had she took the
wrong turn in trusting a man she had felt from the beginning was a demon under
his smiling face?

She is running toward a new life for herself and child and cares not of what may
happen to them and where this road will lead, anywhere has to be better than the
one she has just escaped. She dreams of a life full of heartbeats and smiling faces
that are true to the eye and soul. She scurries faster now running from the darkened
forest running for all she can feeling a lightness come over her body as she quickens
her pace now. She already feels like a weight is being lifted from her shoulders and
kisses her child with tenderness that only she can give.

In a start she wakens to arms around her and can smell the blossoms of the cherry trees
that line her gardens and smiles to herself as she realizes her fairy-tale has came true
long ago and the woman running in the forest had been her mother saving her from
a life of heartache and unbearable doom. Her heart slows to an even pace now as she
turns over looking at her prince charming and thanking the woman whom she had never
meant before, but in her dreams...

The light under the door

She walks across the threshold of a haunted life one followed by a shadow that seemed to
always follow her but does not belong to her at all, she looks around looking for the owner
to the shadow just to see an emptiness all around her.

She has stumbled upon a house that seems to be deserted on this gloomy night while in a haste
to get home to the safety of her home. She takes baby steps into the darkened house and sees one
light shining under a door and wonders why there was just the one light on in this house that
seems to be empty of life. She hears a gently voice whisper her name beckoning her to move
closer to the door but it frightens her and she stumbles backwards a few steps trying to turn as
she does so to run far away from this darkened house.

Something compels her to turn back around once again stepping closer to the door now than before,
her eyes never leaves the light that is shining from under the door as if she is in an trance of some sort.

Fear weakens her body and makes her question the reasoning for treading so close to what has to be
danger that terrifies her, but to leave now would only leave the wonder of what was behind the door
for the rest of her life. She moves her hand up slowly to grab the handle of the door just to have a
shock course through her body making her arm drop back to her sides in a wave of fear.

She is determined to find out what hides behind this door that shines so bright in such a darkened
house, so she once again grabs for the handle this time now letting the shocking waves daunt her
to turn away from the door. She gives the door one hard shove open and is taken back by what she
sees in the room that had scared her to the core of her being. She sees a beauty like no other and
feels freedom and fulfillment course through her body as she has never felt before. This room is
filled with a peace she had never experienced in all of her life. She did not feel swirls of fear or
dread as she had expected she would and this brings a smile to her face and a glimmer to her eyes.

She now knew what had scared her from this door that the light shimmered from, it was her own
demons that hid beneath her soul telling her to not tread into a new world of contentment or happiness.
She had been fighting this demon all of her life and was tormented by anything new and that made her feel alive. She had reeked her own doom and made her own unhappiness in life follow her around. She now knew that to live free and with a fulfillment that brought her happiness she needed to let go of her fears in life before it was to late to really live in peace and harmony with herself and others.

The shadow that seemed to follow her throughout her life had disappeared on that gloomy night..
leaving only wonderment of the shimmering light that shined from under the door..
